 The Annapurna Base Camp Trekking – One Of The Best Treks in The World

This Annapurna Base Camp trekking is one of the best trekking trails in the world. During Annapurna trekking, you will pass through a variety of terrain. Starting from lowland, dense rhododendron forests, and rice terraces. Offering an outstanding view of the mountains each day until you reach the base of the tenth highest mountain in the world. Further, you will pass right through the center of Annapurna range, a magnificent arena of staggering scale. This is a sacred land of native Gurung people.

Annapurna Base Camp trek route used to be heaven for wildlife and wildflowers visited only by few shepherds who brought their flocks to graze summer meadows. Nowadays, there are plenty of horses and yaks passing through the trails and has now become one of the busiest trails where you will see the local people and numbers of tourist making their way up to the base camp.

In many ways, Annapurna Base Camp trek is a lovely, intense, and a direct route into the heart of Himalayas trekking through the best of Nepal’s diversity. This trek provides a fine opportunity to get up close to gigantic Himalayan peaks filling the skyline within a short time. Though Annapurna Base Camp trek has some steep climbs, the trek is not difficult.

Itinerary


Day 1 Arrival - Kathmandu

Arrive in Kathmandu. Meeting and assistance at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Rest of the day is free.

Day 2 Kathmandu

Morning tour of Kathmandu Durbar Square. It is a place where the city’s Kings were crowned. Having been built and rebuilt over the generations, it is now the valley’s number one tourist attractions. Most of the temples you see here are a mere three or four centuries old. The entire square was designated as a World Heritage Monument in 1979. The Durbar Square is teeming with shrines and statues. Walk around Kumari Chowk which is a home of “living goddesses”, she comes to the balcony at the scheduled time to welcome the guests.

Continue on to Swayambhunath Stupa. On the top of the hill west of Kathmandu value is one of the popular and instantly recognizable symbols of Nepal. It is also referred to as “Monkey Temple” by many tourists because of the large tribes of monkeys that guards the hill. Legends say after the Bodhisattva Manjushri drained the water from the lake revealing the Kathmandu valley, the lotus one the island of the lake was transformed into the hillock, and the blazing light from the lotus became the statue.

Afternoon tour of Patan Durbar Square. Patan also known as Lalitpur is the second largest city inside the valley. Patan has a long Buddhist influence and the four corners of the city are marked by Stupas said to have been created by great Buddhist emperor around 250 BC.

Day 3 Kathmandu - Pokhara (820m)

After breakfast, drive to Pokhara Valley (205 kms/6 hrs drive) through a scenic mountainous highway.

Pokhara is the most popular destination in Nepal. It is also referred as city of lakes and mountains. It is also the gateway to one of the best trekking location in the world. Approx. 200 kms from Kathmandu Pokhara enjoys a mild climate, clean air, reflection of snowcapped mountains on the sheltered lake. Its relaxed atmosphere is pleasantly removed from the hectic hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. Lakeside Pokhara is a traveller’s oasis. The tourist area of lakeside, stretched out along the southeast shore of the valley’s largest lake.

Day 4 Pokhara - Phedi - Pothana (1,990m/4 hrs)

After breakfast, drive to Phedi (15 min). From here the trail ascends through the woody wooded Dhampus ridge, climbing steeply to Pothana.

From Pothana you will be rewarded with fine views of mountains including Machapuchare, the ” Fishtail” mountain.

Day 5 Pothana - Landrung (1,620m/5 hrs)

From Pothana today the trail descends through thicker rhododendron forest and cultivated hillsides around the village of Tolka (1700m) before reaching Landrung, a substantial Gurung village with great views of Annapurna South.

Day 6 Landrung - Chhomrong (2,040m/5 hrs)

From Landrung the trail follows Modi Khola upwards crossing the river at New Bridge (1340m) and climbing very steeply above Jhinu Danda to Chhomrong.

Dinner and overnight at the local lodge/tea house in Chhomrong.

Day 7 Chhomrong - Bamboo Lodge (2,430m/6 hrs)

The route above Chhomrong is spectacular and simple. The trek now enters the upper Modi Khola valley. Continue on to Bamboo.

Dinner and overnight at the local lodge/tea house in Bamboo Lodge.

Day 8 Bamboo lodge - Machapuchre Base Camp (3,720m/6 hrs)

The trail climbs through Bamboo, then rhododendron forests to Doban at 2540m and to Machapuchre Base Camp.

Dinner and overnight at the local lodge/tea house in Machhapuchhare Base Camp.

Day 9 Machapuchre Base Camp - Annapurna Base Camp (4,095m) - Dovan (2,580m)

Early morning, excursion to Annapurna Base Camp and trek down to Dovan (7 hrs walk).

Dinner and overnight at the local lodge/ tea house in Dovan.

Day 10 Dovan - Chhomrong (2,020m/6 hrs)

After breakfast, trek from Dovan to Chhomrong (6 hrs walk).

Dinner and overnight at a local guest house/ tea house in Chhomrong.

Meal(s): Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Day 11 Chhomrong - Ghandrung (1,970m/7 hrs)

After breakfast, trek from Chhomrong to a Gurung village of Ghandrung (7 hrs walk).

Dinner and overnight at a local guest house/ tea house in Ghandrung.

Meal(s): Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 12 Ghandruk - Nayapul - Pokhara

After breakfast, walk down to Nayapul (4.5 hrs walk). After a lunch, drive back to Pokhara (1 hrs drive). Upon arrival in Pokhara transfer to the hotel. Rest of the day is at your leisure.

Overnight at the hotel in Pokhara.

Day 13 Pokhara - Kathmandu (25 min. flight)

After breakfast, transfer to the airport and fly back to Kathmandu (25 min). Upon arrival in Kathmandu transfer to the hotel.

Rest of the day is free for personal activities.

Overnight at the hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 14 Kathmandu - Departure

Free till departure. Transfer to the airport at time to connect your onward flight.
